About National Irrigation Authority
A State Corporation established under the Irrigation Act No. 14 of 2019
The National Irrigation Authority (NIA) was established under the Irrigation Act No. 14 of 2019, which repealed the Irrigation Act, Cap 347, and transitioned the former National Irrigation Board.
Our mandate is to develop, manage, regulate, and coordinate irrigation services in Kenya to support sustainable food security and socio-economic development, in line with:
- Constitution of Kenya, 2010
- Kenya Vision 2030
- Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA)
- NIA Strategic Plan 2023-2027
